Description
This banana cellulosic fabric is a modern, plant-based textile made from cellulose extracted from banana plant stems—a part of the plant that is usually discarded after the fruit harvest.
Instead of wasting this agricultural by-product, the fibres are processed into a refined, spinnable cellulose, creating a high-performance textile with a natural appearance and luxurious feel.
How This Fabric Is Made
The process begins by collecting banana pseudostems after the fruit has been harvested. These stems are mechanically crushed and softened to release their cellulose.
The extracted pulp is then purified and converted into fine filaments through a controlled chemical process, similar to the production of lyocell, modal, or viscose.
These filaments are spun into yarn and woven into fabric, resulting in a textile that is smooth, breathable, biodegradable, and exceptionally soft.
Important Fibre Note
While the original raw material is plant-based, banana cellulosic fibre is a regenerated, semi-synthetic textile. It is produced by chemically processing natural cellulose into a usable fibre.
It should not be described as raw or mechanically extracted banana fibre.
