    Description

This beautifully airy, handwoven Eri silk fabric is made from 100% Ahimsa—or peace—silk and is available in six naturally dyed shades. In the Ahimsa process, the cocoons are collected only after the moth has emerged, allowing the silk to be produced without interrupting its natural life cycle.

Unlike conventional filament silk, Eri silk is spun rather than reeled. This creates a softly slubbed surface with a matte, organic character. The fabric has a quiet and understated beauty—luxurious without the high shine commonly associated with mulberry silk.

Each of the six shades is achieved using natural dyes, resulting in nuanced, earthy colour with subtle variations in depth and tone. These variations are an inherent part of natural dyeing and handloom production, making every cut of fabric slightly unique.

At 170 GSM, the fabric is lightweight and breathable, with a soft, fluid drape and gentle movement. It feels cool and comfortable against the skin while retaining enough body for elegant garment construction. Its semi-sheer quality makes it particularly beautiful for layered silhouettes, softly gathered garments and flowing pieces.

The handwoven plain weave reveals delicate silk slubs and small irregularities that reflect the handmade nature of the cloth. These are not defects but authentic characteristics of hand-spun silk, handloom weaving and natural dyeing.

    Natural Dye Characteristics

Natural dyes create colours with depth, softness and gentle tonal movement rather than a completely flat or synthetic-looking finish. Minor differences may occur between dye batches, and the colour may appear slightly different depending on the light.

Small areas of unevenness, tonal variation or faint dye marks are natural characteristics of traditionally dyed cloth. Over time, the shades may soften and develop a beautiful patina with washing and use.

Please order sufficient fabric for your project at one time, as exact shade matching between separate dye batches cannot be guaranteed.

    Care Instructions

Natural-dyed silk should be handled gently to preserve its colour, texture and drape.

    * Hand wash separately in cold water
    * Use a mild, pH-neutral detergent suitable for silk
    * Do not soak for prolonged periods
    * Do not bleach
    * Do not wring or twist
    * Gently press out excess water
    * Dry flat or hang in the shade
    * Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight
    * Iron on a low silk setting from the reverse side
    * Place a cotton cloth between the iron and the fabric if needed
    * Professional eco-friendly dry cleaning is also suitable

Some colour release may occur during the first few washes, which is normal for naturally dyed textiles. Always wash separately.

    Please Note

Due to the hand-spun yarn, handloom weaving and natural dyeing process, slight variations in colour, weave, width, texture and slub placement may occur. These individual characteristics are part of the fabric’s handmade identity and should not be considered flaws.

Colours may also vary slightly depending on screen settings and lighting conditions. We recommend ordering a swatch before purchasing larger quantities when precise colour matching is important.
