Kala Cotton is an indigenous cotton traditionally cultivated in the Kutch region of Gujarat, India.

Naturally adapted to a dry climate, it is known for its resilience and ability to grow under rain-fed conditions. The fibre has a distinctly earthy and tactile character compared with highly processed commercial cotton.

When spun and woven by hand, Kala Cotton produces breathable, durable cloth with visible yarn character, gentle slubs, and subtle variations throughout the surface.

The fabric gradually softens with washing and use while retaining its strength and distinctive woven identity.

SEWING RECOMMENDATIONS

• Pre-wash the fabric before cutting

• Allow approximately 3–5% for possible shrinkage

• Test shrinkage using a measured swatch

• Allow the fabric to rest flat before positioning pattern pieces

• Keep the twill direction consistent across all garment pieces

• Use a universal needle suitable for medium-weight woven cotton
